Work abroad: top volunteer programmes

You might have reached a plateau and are in dire need for something more fulfilling. Volunteer programs abroad give you the chance to open your eyes to the world and the poverty that inhabits it. We invite you to take a look at some of the most intriguing volunteer programs across the globe, and work abroad to make a difference.

Philippines

In the Philippines, a non-profit organisation called Gawad Kalinga has a goal to create 700,000 homes in 7,000 poverty stricken areas in 7 years (2005 – 2012). The program works on building community to boost productivity, as well as health. Volunteers help build homes from scratch. If you're willing to get down and dirty, consider giving time to the Gawad Kalinga program.

Thailand

Conservation of reefs and tropical islands in Thailand are perfect for the ecologists. Help scientists collect various sea samples, or work on land to preserve nature's best sanctuaries. One of the famous islands in Thailand, Koh Tao, is one of the country's best kept secrets. Keep in mind that a day spent helping the environment is an opportunity for many others to live.

Kenya

Somewhere in the world, a child is in urgent need of care and education. Volunteering in Kenya's Orphanages and schools will give you the opportunity to impart knowledge and love to those who need it the most. Forget your heart ache, there are others who are in much more need. Consider looking for the right program, be it through UNICEF or ELI.

Walk for life

Amfar is a foundation for AIDS and research. Volunteers will have to be ready for the longest walk of their lives as they trek from Africa to Thailand. The program aims to raise funds for prevention, treatment, and education.

Tanzania

How much do you love animals? By volunteering with the World Wildlife Fund in Tanzania, you can experience the safari, live with the Maasai, and help preserve the wild. If you've got enough energy to last you through a 10 week adventure, don't hold back at volunteering for the WWF.
