Can you get well paid jobs abroad?

There are lots of opportunities for working abroad, especially during the summer months. However, many of these positions are part time and casual in nature. Some are paid on a commission only basis, while others are paid hourly - and at a fairly low rate for the majority of positions. But what if you want well paid jobs abroad?

You have a number of avenues open to you, but you'll have to consider the following:

  • If you want to work in a non English speaking country, you'll have to be fluent in the local language in order to secure well paid jobs. If you have basic language skills, you could get reasonably paid jobs labouring or chefing - but almost all professional positions will require fluency.
  • You'll need to ensure the correct working visa. If you don't have the right to work in the country (for example, if it's a country located outside of the EU), you'll have to secure a visa before you commence your position. Employers tend to be reluctant to sponsor a potential employee from overseas unless they are absolutely outstanding among applicants for the position.
  • Well paid job will receive a lot of applications, meaning that competition can be fierce. Remember that you will be up against local applicants, and employers may favour them because they can usually start on a shorter notice and there will be less bureaucracy involved in hiring them. This means that you'll have to put a lot of effort into your application and your CV in order to stand out.
