We look at one of the most popular healthcare jobs in Shropshire today

If you want to work in one of the most popular healthcare jobs in Shropshire around right now, the position of nutritional therapist, then read on because we've got everything you need to know about the role right here.

As a nutritional therapist it will be your job to advise and guide people about their diets. It may be that you are dealing with overweight people who are in danger of health problems if they don't shed the pounds, or diabetics for whom a poor diet could prove to be fatal, or people with particular eating disorders or allergies who need special care and attention to ensure that they remain healthy at all times.

To be eligible to apply for this role, you will need to have a HND or degree in a subject such as sports science, pharmacy, nutrition, food science, dietetics, chemistry or human biology. It is not uncommon for people to enter this field without a degree, so don't let that put you off.

On a personal level, you'll need to display high motivation, excellent report writing skills, strong communication capabilities, the ability to work well in a team and a confident and professional attitude when dealing with others at all times.

The role of nutritional therapist has an entry level salary of between £40 and £120 for an introductory consultation, while follow up visits are usually charged at between £30 and £100 each. You can expect to earn around £19,500 per year for your first few years, but as your reputation and experience grow you'll soon be able to earn in excess of £30,000 per year.

For the most part, nutritional therapists tend to found their own practice and work that way, as opposed to working for others, so you're unlikely to find anywhere to work directly for in Shropshire.
