We take a look at van driving jobs in the West Midlands

Finding a job is far from easy these days, but there are a number of industries where you can give yourself the best chance of finding work. Unlike the construction industry where there simply aren't any positions available out there for the most part, driving roles are quite common to find advertised on the major job sites across the United Kingdom.

Before you decide that you are going to switch your career, or even focus on driving as a temporary measure in order to get yourself back on your feet, there are a number of things that you need to know to give yourself the best possible chance of finding work.

Firstly, owning a car and having a driving license doesn't necessarily mean that you are qualified to be a professional drive. You'll need a clean license (or at the very most, no more than three points) if you are going to be considered for any serious positions. On top of this, you'll need to have a had a full license for a minimum of five years for most jobs.

These are the bare minimum requirements, but each company will have their own specifics. These will vary depending on the type of driving you you are considering. There are a wide range of van driving jobs in the West Midlands for you to choose from, so it's important that you have an idea which ones would suit you best.

For the most part, simple van driving jobs where you'll be delivering goods from A to B will pay in the region of £14,000 to £16,000 per year for between five and ten deliveries per day. These are the most common kinds of jobs on offer, but they rarely come with contracts longer than six months, so might not be great if you're looking for reliability.

Alternatively you could look at positions delivering for larger companies, such as IKEA, Tesco, Sainsbury's or other supermarket franchises. The wages will be similar to those listed above, coming in at around £7.00 to £8.00 per hour, but you should be able to get yourself a minimum of a 12 month contract into the bargain.
