Vacancies for mums at home to earn income

There are a range of vacancies for mums at home to earn income. For many mums, this is an absolutely ideal scenario - you can supplement your income, or even earn a decent living, while working from the comfort of your own home. Here are the pros and cons...

  • There's no commute, so you'll have more free time to spend with your family. That's an average of 90 minutes extra per day
  • Hours are normally flexible, so you can fit the jobs around your other commitments. This makes organising child care a lot simpler
  • You can work at home! It's a huge benefit it itself - you can wear what you like, sit where you like, take breaks when you like... there's much more freedom! You won't have a boss looking over your shoulder every few minutes

  • Work from home jobs are often worse paid than office based equivalents. You'll often be paid per piece of work, rather than per hour
  • Most positions are on a freelance basis, which means that there's not a lot of stability. You're essentially self employed so companies can hire and fire without notice
  • It can be hard to separate your private life from your working life - boundaries are blurred when your office is your home
  • Many telecommuters feel isolated. You'll have no one to chat to about work matters and you may feel that your work is overlooked
  • It's no substitute for childcare. Don't expect to be able to work from home and care for young children at the same time - it's often too demanding
