Student jobs in summer can make all the difference during the school year

With the British economy still struggling it's not surprising that many students are finding it quite difficult to find student jobs in summer in the United Kingdom these days. Fortunately there are a few things that you can do in order to make sure that your search is as brief and successful as possible.

The first thing we suggest is focussing primarily on the retail sector. Despite the fact that there is less disposable income than at any other point in the last couple of decades among people in the United Kingdom, retail spending has been rather consistent, so many stores are always on the lookout for part time staff.

These positions are an excellent opportunity for students, since they are usually only required to work 2 to 3 days per week, and the rosters tend to be quite flexible. When searching for these positions we recommend calling into stores in person, rather than searching for jobs online. The majority of part time positions in the retail sector are never posted on the net, so you'll need to keep your ear to the ground in order to find them.

The best approach is often to focus on the shopping centres near to you. With so many stores under one roof, it is often the most economic use of your time to start your search there. Often you can apply for dozens of jobs in a single day.

The most common position for students in retail tends to be that of sales assistant. In this role you'll be dealing with the public every day so a friendly personality is essential. You can expect to earn around £5.93 per hour for this work.
