How to find social worker jobs in Australia

In the last couple of years, the Australian government has started to recruit social workers from overseas. Social worker jobs in Australia fall under 'Skilled Occupations' which are qualified to apply for migration visas to Australia and, once there, jobs are easy to get.

Getting Qualifications Assessed - Before you can apply for jobs in social work, the government mandates you have your qualifications assessed, to ensure they meet minimum Australian standards. visabureau.com/australia/social-work-jobs.aspx has all the information you need on how to go about doing that.

Once you're sure you can legally work as a social worker in Australia, several agencies are out there to help:

HCL International (healthcarelocums.com) - HCL places social workers from overseas into a number of regions around Australia. They have positions for child protection social workers, working in the northern territories, and jobs for social workers in aboriginal communities.

Allied Health (alliedhealth.com.au) - Allied Health has jobs available in both temporary and permanent positions. You'll find job listings in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.

They look for social workers with at least two years' experience, as do most employers in Australia if they're hiring overseas workers.

Social Worker on Working Holiday -  Don't forget, if you don't want to emigrate to Australia permanently and are between 18-30 years old, social worker jobs in Australia are available while on a one-year Working Holiday Visa.

It's a great way to see the country and a fun way to work several jobs, as you're only allowed to work six months for the same employer. See immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday.
