The skills required for marketing jobs

Because of their high paced, often high-paying, nature, marketing jobs are in demand among job seekers. If you want to stand out from the pack, it's important that you take some time to focus on your skills and identify the areas that you need to improve. Here are the main skills required for marketing jobs.

Skills needed for marketing jobs

Creativity - Marketing is all about coming up with creative solutions to problems. To market a product or service to its full potential, in a way that generates leads and sales for the company, requires a creative mindset.

Analytical - As well as the creative side of the job, successful marketers will also need to analyse the results of campaigns and act upon these results to identify trends, areas for improvement and potential growth areas.

Team work - Marketing is rarely a solo enterprise. In most marketing jobs, you'll be working as part of a team to devise, target and analyse marketing campaigns. Good team working skills are therefore a must.

Calm under pressure - The world of marketing can be a highly pressured one. You'll generally be working to tight deadlines and aiming for specific targets. The nature of the job can also mean that you may be required to put in long days or work on evenings and weekends.

Target driven - You should be motivated by a target and able to adapt your marketing strategy to reach this target even if circumstances change. Most campaigns are centred, formally or informally, around some kind of a target, whether this be monetary, number of leads or other.

Writing skills - Writing is one of the most overlooked skills required for marketing jobs, but it is also one of the most important. Even if you will not be responsible for writing advertising copy, you probably will be expected to contribute to writing briefs, reports and strategies for managers or clients.
