We look at why SIA training is so important these days

With the security industry being one of the few industries in the United Kingdom that are actually growing these days as opposed to suffering desperately due to the ongoing economic recession, it's not surprising that so many people want to become involved with it and see it as a great career opportunity.

If this sounds like you, and you fancy yourself as a security operative, then there is one very important thing that you need to know. In 2001, the British Government introduced the SIA (Security Industry Authority) License. This license was made compulsory for anyone working within the security industry in any capacity in order to ensure that they met all the criteria set out to ensure that they are the right people for the job.

Due to the sensitive nature of the majority of security work in the United Kingdom, it is now essential that anyone who wants to work in the industry, whether as a security van driver, CCTV monitor, keyholder, director of a security company or bouncer at a nightclub has carried out the relevant SIA training for their position and has acquired the license.

There are two kinds of SIA license, and you will need to pick the right one for your preferred line of work. If you want to be directly involved in the security process, then you're going to need a front line SIA license, while those of you who want to work in the background, perhaps as a keyholder or in an administrative positions, will need a non-front line license.

You can find out more about SIA training and licensing on the official government website at sia.homeoffice.gov.uk.
