Preparation

The saying goes that if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. Always dedicate at least three hours to researching the sales company that you are interviewing with. It's not sufficient to just be able to recite the company's history at the job interview - you should be insightful and selective in your research. Some of the most important areas to look at are the company's visions and objectives, its competitors, any current projects or sales drives that may be occurring, and sales industry news and developments. Try to tie what you have learned in with the requirements of the job you have applied for.

On the day

Presentation counts for a lot when it comes to sales jobs. You'll have to demonstrate that you've got excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ensure that you are smartly turned out (a suit is the safest option for both men and women). If the job involves face to face selling, pay close attention to your appearance, facial expressions and body language.
