Jobs that inspire envy: the two most fun jobs in UK that pay well

Satisfaction in a job can be measured in many ways. For some people, a high paying job can bring a lot of satisfaction. For others, job security, work-life balance and or career advancement is what would bring them joy. Yet for most of us, the coolest job that would make us look forward to going to work every day is where we have fun at work. These two most fun jobs in UK represent highly satisfying jobs that pay well and inspire envy in the country.

Standup comedians

Imagine pocketing from £10,000 to millions in salary every year? How would that make you feel? Would you love your job more? Well, standup comedians have one of the most fun jobs in UK and average this amount annually. In fact, some leading comedians earn more than most Premier League footballers just for making us laugh.

Of course, this is a tough gig to break into. But, once you break in and get super stand-up comedy shows that fill the country’s largest stadiums, there are extraordinary perks and sums to be made. Peter Kay, one of the Britain’s funniest comedians, pockets up to £20 million per tour as a comedian. To him, this job is not only fun, but also extremely profitable and satisfying.

"I get to travel around the world on someone else's dime – I've performed in Dubai, Netherlands, Tokyo, Aruba, Mexico, just to name a few – and I have an upcoming tour of the UK, Thailand in December and Trinidad in March," he is quoted telling the personal finance blog WalletPop.

"Since I fly almost 200,000 miles a year, I get upgraded to first class on every flight, and have a free lounge membership. My life is like that of George Clooney in "Up in the Air", just without the sex LOL." He says jokingly about his life as a top class standup comedian.

This just goes to show that contrary to what many might think, landing a job as a super stand-up comedian is no joke. It is serious business.

Video game designers

The UK games industry is the 4th largest in the world and has created global hits like the Grand Theft Auto franchise. UK video game designers know all too well what it means to have fan at work. You might think that playing your favourite video game is a lot, but video game designers actually find that creating these games that you enjoy playing from their imagination is even more fun. Add to that the fact that the average video game designer makes about £30,316 annual salary and you have one of the most fun, well-paying jobs in the UK.
