We look at hairdressing jobs in Stoke

Despite the fact that hairdressing is one of the most popular positions within the beauty industry in the United Kingdom there are plenty of people who are confused as to just what they need to begin their career. Depending on who you ask, you'll either be told that you'll need to study it in a fashion or beauty college before you'll be able to get a job in the industry, or you'll be told that you don't need any formal qualification. Obviously they both can't be right, so which one is it?

Well, surprisingly enough they are both technically accurate. You don't need any formal qualifications in order to find hairdressing jobs in Stoke, unlike in other industries where it would be impossible to get a job without being able to show a degree or diploma. However the chances of finding a salon or experienced hairdresser to take you under your wings without you being able to show that you have a good idea of what you're doing and what is expected of you are slim to none.

Without being taken on as a trainee you'll have no chance of making it through the ranks and building a career out of hairdressing, so we recommend you take an SVQ or NVQ Hairdressing Level 2 course at your local college of further education or adult education centre. You can contact them for more information about this particular course.

Once you've got your qualification and found a hairdresser to take you on, you'll need to spend a year working as a trainee. You'll be expected to help with the upkeep of the salon as well as learning as much as you can by watching the more experienced hairdressers and performing the occasional haircut. Once you have been deemed to have served your time, you can can kiss goodbye to the minimum wage of £5.93 per hour that you had been earning and say hello to wages of between £10,000 and £16,000 per year for your services.
