The different types of jobs in Solihull

Solihull is one of the most affluent towns in the Midlands. It is located 9 miles from Birmingham city centre, so residents often find work within the city as well as jobs in Solihull itself.

Solihull was founded as a market town. It was untouched by major industry until the 1960s when the Rover Cars assembly plant and the expansion of the Birmingham International Airport brought new jobs to the area.

Birmingham International Airport

The airport is used by between 8 and 9 million passengers a year and contains 150 companies. There are currently 7,000 people employed at the airport covering an enormous range of skills.

Land Rover

Today, Solihull is the home of Land Rover. Their 15 acre site on Lode Lane houses the factory and the Land Rover Experience Centre. It currently employs 5,000 permanent and temporary workers.

The N.E.C

The National Exhibition Centre is an important employer in the area. They employ full and part time security, catering, sales and event management staff at the exhibition centre, as well as finance, IT and marketing support staff at Centre Core, which is their onsite headquarters.

Birmingham Business Park

Companies like Orange, Hewlett-Packard and Fujitsu are residents at the park. In all there are close to 100 companies on the site.

Final Word

Solihull has changed a lot over the years but at its heart it remains a market town, so there are plenty of job opportunities within retail. There are two main shopping centres in the town. Mell Square is the older of the two. It has over 90 stores and is situated right in the heart of Solihull. The newest shopping centre is Touchwood which contains over 80 stores and includes major retailers like John Lewis, Next, JD Sports and River Island.
