Looking for jobs abroad in summer 2011?

Are you interested in jobs abroad for summer 2011? We have good news and bad news.

Let's start with the good news first. Summer is the best time of year to find jobs abroad, especially when you're looking for temporary or casual work. That's because it's peak tourist season in Europe and much of the rest of the world too. This create openings for jobs in tourism, hospitality, transport and a range of other industries that you don't automatically associate with tourism, like retail and cleaning.

Aside from that, because summer is traditionally the time of year that students are on their holidays, you may also come across vacancies for summer schemes or summer schools teaching English, for example. So if you want to work abroad, summer can be the best time of year to do it.

However, because summer is the most popular time of year to find work abroad, you will also face tough competition from students and other seasonal workers. And that's the bad news. Finding a last minute vacancy in a desirable industry is very difficult, so you'll need to start thinking about your application months in advance. Most of the top vacancies are filled by March, and some are even filled up to a year in advance. It's therefore never too early to start making plans.

Even if the job is casual in nature, it's a good idea to take your time with the application process - perhaps practising your phone interview technique (a popular method for interviewing overseas candidates).
