Can't find a handyman vacancy in London?

There's no denying that the job market is very tough right now for tradespeople. Between redundancies and the collapse of the construction industry, qualified tradespeople and general labourers are having a hard time finding suitable job vacancies. If you can't find a handyman vacancy in London, why not make one yourself?

Even if major employers aren't hiring right now, there's always a need for handymen in London. Many private households require the odd job here and there, while schools, apartment blocks and other companies and organisations often employ full time handymen - or have someone on call whenever they need any work done.

So there is work available if you can create the right opportunities. By this, we mean promoting your services. There are essentially two steps to this (although they are usually done simultaneously once you get started).

The first is to advertise your services. You can do this by:

  • Dropping leaflets through letter boxes
  • Putting up adverts on local notice boards
  • Placing a free ad on London Gumtree
  • Advertising in the classifieds section of your local newspaper
  • Setting up a website so that you can be found online

The second is to help the news about your business spread. The best way to go about this is to do a great job. The client is likely to pass your details on to a friend if they ever require a handyman. You could also ask the customer to post a review online. This will boost your profile and encourage more customers to contact you.
