Finding credit control jobs

Credit control is an important function of any finance team but it's a job that's not widely understood. There is more to it than making calls, but it differs from industry to industry.

Types of Roles

Some businesses run their credit control department like a customer service team. The credit controller makes calls and works to a cash collection target. All other functions, like dealing with invoice disputes, posting cash and correcting allocation errors are carried out by another team. The other type of credit control involves each credit controller taking responsibility for a part of the ledger. Members of this type of credit control team allocate their own cash, raise journals, carry out reconciliations, call their customers and deal with queries.

There are a lot of national agencies that cater for finance staff as well as general agencies that can place you in a credit control role. Agencies like Robert Half, Hays Accountancy and Page Personnel Finance only place finance and accounting staff. Although companies like Reed and Office Team also place other office staff, their consultants will have similar credit control jobs to those in the accounting agencies.

These agencies have offices up and down the country where you can register for temporary and permanent work. You can often register online and most agencies allow you to review their current vacancies on the web and contact them if you find something you are interested in.

Employment Websites

Sites like jobsite.co.uk and monster.co.uk can also be used to find work in credit control. These sites allow you to upload your CV and apply for jobs without an agency. They also make you visible to consultants from hundreds of agencies, who will contact you if your skills match a job's requirements.
