Is your career on the right track?

When you are busy with your day to day working life, it can be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture - that is, whether your career is on right track or not. It can be helpful to take a step back from daily concerns and honestly consider these four career related questions.

Is your career on the right track?

When considering if your career is on the right track or not, ask yourself these questions...

1. Are you happy in your job? The chances are that if you are happy at work, and doing something that you love, then you're on the right track in terms of a pleasant working life. Life's too short to spend eight hours of your day miserable, so if you are not happy, have a careful think about your future career path.

2. Are you fulfilled in your job? Although happiness is important, fulfilment can't be underestimated either. Perhaps your job is stressful but you know that you're making a positive difference in the world. Or perhaps you have lots of fun at work but disagree with the company's values. Long term, fulfilment is every bit as important as happiness.

3. Are you using the best of your skills and talents? It is a waste to waste your talents. If your current job isn't giving you a chance to shine, it may be time to reconsider your future career path. Just like muscles that aren't flexed, you can lose your skills if you don't use them regularly.

4. Does you job meet your material needs? When considering whether your career is on the right track or not, it's also important to consider material concerns such as pay, holidays and benefits, and whether or not your chosen path can adequately fund your desired lifestyle (for example, a house and car).
