Best careers in banking in the UK
The UK’s banking industry has been under a lot of pressure over the past few years thanks to their part in the credit crunch, but there are still some attractive roles that could be building blocks on your way to a great career in finance. The best places for careers in banking in the UK are probably located in London but that doesn’t mean you won’t find a great role outside the capital.
Banking sector
At this time there are 350,000 workers employed within the banking sector in the UK. Some of those employees will be in customer facing roles within branch and others will be talking to customers in call centres, but that still leaves a lot of workers in the banking sector who get involved with the financial rather than customer service side of the industry.
Private Banker
People in this role are also known as wealth managers, which is a more appropriate term because the position involves the management of investment portfolios for clients. You’ll need a recognised accounting qualification and a high-level degree to get into this sort of position.
Project Manager
If you’re the sort of individual who likes to see a job through from start to finish, project management could be for you. You’ll need experience within the banking sector as the role calls for someone who can identify and resolve problems. Implementing a strategy to make the organisation work more efficiently is also part of the role, so good interpersonal skills are a must.
Branch manager
If you see yourself at the forefront rather than behind the scenes, this could be the career path you chose. You’ll be based in the high street so you’ll be able to find work all over the country and you’ll be using customer service skills and banking know-how to get the job done.
Best careers
Some of the best careers in banking in the UK are advertised online but you’ll need to join one of the major finance agencies if you want to open yourself up to all of the available opportunities.
