Are there jobs in Canada for Brits?

The rugged charms of Canada are winning over an ever increasing number of British citizens, with more and more packing their bags and flying across the Atlantic each year. The reason for this is that it's a beautiful country, and it wasn't really afflicted by the same economic woes as most of Europe and the USA.

But the question is, are there jobs in Canada for Brits? Well, the answer is a resounding yes, but you're going to need to secure a work permit first. Without a permit, British citizens are eligible to visit Canada for six months as a tourist, however, you won't be able to work.

If you want to stay and work, there are two avenues open to you. You can either take part in the International Experience Canada programme, which is essentially a one year working visa, or else you can look into the skilled worker visa.

The IEC visa is open to UK citizens aged between 18 and 30. It allows you to work anywhere in Canada for a year. If you want to work in healthcare, or with children, you will have to undergo a medical. The good news about this visa is that you can re-apply for a second year when your year expires.

The other option is the Skilled Worker Programme. This visa is open to workers who fit into 29 separate categories in which Canada is in need of extra workers. If you qualify, you will be able to stay and work indefinitely, but only work in your chosen field.
